Isn’t Change Scary?
In the TRANSFIGURATION, Jesus changes right before the disciples' eyes... We see the Glory of God as Jesus transfigures right in front of Peter, James and John!
We can read it and think, OH Cool!
Jesus takes them to a higher place, and they get to see a glimpse of God’s plan and His Glory! But It must have been hard for the disciples who knew Jesus to see Him changing. They just stood there and what were they supposed to do? It’s hard to just stand there and NOT DO something right?
Change can be scary… even frightening... and as human beings, we don’t alway like it!
Even if it is for the good -- or good for us.
Even if we know that we need this change to get to a better place.
But the process might be terrifying! Fear can either paralyze us - or move us into doing something that we should not be doing. We might move ahead of God’s plan or jump to conclusions... And move into our own plan.
Peter jumps up and wants to make three tents right there on the mountain…
“Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Peter moved right into the human thing to do... make a plan and make provisions!
God calls out to them- LISTEN! Listen to Jesus.
“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased: Listen to Him.”
This reminds me of the women in crisis who are seeking abortions. As they share their hearts and trials, the truth comes out about where their heart-breaking situations are leading… The Glory of God shines through, and we can see their true beauty!
When we just simply LISTEN to them, we are able to watch them transform in strength and confidence into the mothers God is calling them to be.
Try this during the second week of LENT!
Try LISTENING for God when change is taking place in your life.
Try LISTENING to people who are going through changes that are scary.
Look for the Glory of God through these situations, and know that in the midst of changes, God is at work!
He never stops working!
And He is well pleased with His Son’s mission in your life.
God bless your Lent for Life,
-Marie
