Can I be honest with you?
Life gets overwhelming at times!
Do you ever feel that way?
Sometimes just meeting our basic needs and the needs of our families or friends can be overwhelming!
I think the people were overwhelmed in the Luke’s Gospel this Sunday (9:11-17)
They were overwhelmed because they were either hungry or saw others who were hungry and they wondered …
How can we feed all these people?
Sometimes when we see the people of the world suffering it’s easier to look away than to face the pain
- or look to have someone else solve their problem.
The disciples wanted Jesus to dismiss the crowd to get help somewhere else -
Jesus says, “Give them some food yourselves.”
They reply, “Five loaves and two fish is all we have,
unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.”
Then you may already know about how Jesus takes the little they offer and He multiplies their offering…
And feeds the Five Thousand!
Total Miracle!
He feeds then and ends that immediate hunger!
It reminds me of the overwhelming problem with abortion in our communities today!
How can we stop the pain of abortion in the lives of women and children?
How can we possibly help when the numbers are so high and the needs so great!
Does it sometimes ease our pain to think about the law changing and put all our hope in abortion ending if it becomes illegal…
To think that when the law changes then this problem of abortion will go away?
I think we should look at this Gospel - the good news from Jesus which shows us that He wants us to do something!
Even the smallest offering whether prayer, time volunteering or the smallest financial gift can be our way
of asking the Lord to meet the needs of women facing unplanned pregnancies…
Then the hundreds of women who come to our centers receive the miraculous help they need to be strong mothers and to make the changes to raise up their children.
The problem is overwhelming… children are dying in abortion.
The answer is to do something… prayer, sacrifice and alms giving.
Then God moves and makes miracles of LIFE happen.
If He can feed the Five Thousand with Five loaves and two fish…
He can save the next Five Thousand from abortion with our 5 Hail Mary’s - $5 gift - and 2 hours of volunteering!
