Where did Mom go?
For those who know children, we know that as soon as mom leaves the room, the baby begins to cry.
I imagine the baby is wondering:
“When is she coming back? Who will take care of me? Am I going to be safe?”
I reflect on the experience of the disciples at the Ascension, and I can’t help but think they experienced something similar.
They wonder where Jesus is going. They wonder when he will be back.
They are wondering now what will happen to them…
The mothers who come into the women’s centers are full of these questions and so afraid they will be alone!
They wonder who will be there for them?
Who will support them if they were to keep this baby?
How can they provide for themselves and this baby? These are the questions we answer at our center.
Just like the disciples, these questions give rise to a great fear in their hearts, because they don’t know what will happen to them.
But Jesus didn’t want to leave us alone. He promised us:
“I will be with you until the end of the age.”
and furthermore, he promised that he would send the Comforter -
the Holy Spirit, to be with us always.
The Comforter!
This is what we celebrate today -
The arrival of the Advocate!
He gives us the power and courage to go out and speak the truth to the moms who come to us needing help, compassion, and support!
We work to show them the Comforter -
And that they are not alone,
and there are and always will be caring and compassionate hearts to embrace them with love and gentleness,
Please pray for Holy Spirit to come in a powerful way this Pentecost!
